Emergency Numbers

Residents have asked if their landlord is required to have a 24 hour emergency number to contact the manager. If a main water pipe breaks, you can not call city hall because you are on private property. If you are a state licensed community 210 ILCS 115/9.1 states that the landlord must keep the Department informed of the name, address, and telephone number of the manager at all times.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) informed MHOAI that state licensed communities are suppose to have a voice mail set up if the manager/landlord does not live in the community. IDPH has also told us they have not called these numbers. If you are state licensed and this law is not being followed contact them at 217-782-5830 or contact MHOAI.

If you live in home rule, you need to get your local officials involved to enforce this law, and also contact MHOAI.

Note of interest: In April of 1999 Monmouth, IL. became home rule and no longer have the IDPH to enforce their laws.
