Save Those Notices - Document Those Discussions

(Article added Dec. 31st, 1969)

In the CommunityEvery time you talk to your landlord or manager with your concerns, document it! Follow-up conversations with a dated letter and keep copies. If you receive a letter, keep a copy. If you contact an official or department in the Sate of Illinois, keep a copy. If you believe you are being harassed by your manager, log the dates and times, and keep a journal.

MHOAI can not stress the importance of these copies. They form a paper trail that could later be used as evidence. MHOAI also collects dates and copies of letters for evidence in Springfield when we testify on behalf of homeowners. We also use survey results when we speak with your elected officials. If you haven’t already, please complete and return the survey that was in the last newsletter. When MHOAI Directors testify in Springfield or talk with your elected officials, we do not use your names without your permission, but we do need your evidence in order to protect our homes, neighborhoods, and lifestyle. This paper trail is your insurance.
