Update – The recent tobacco settlement resulted in large amounts of money for participating states, including Illinois. Your elected officials have decided to take that money and reimburse homeowners.

But, only homeowners who own the land under their homes qualify for this rebate. The money will be distributed as a percentage of the property taxes paid by homeowners.

If you own a manufactured/mobile home, then you must own the land under the home to qualify for a portion of this rebate. MHOAI directors were told this money would be distributed beginning October, 2000.

Does this decision sound fair to Illinois residents and taxpayers? Illinois homeowners who were excluded from this rebate should call their state Senator and Representative and ask how they voted on this issue and why.
