HB 2102/SB 744

In SpringfieldBoth bills which increased our Mobile Home Local Services Tax Act (privilege tax) about five times of the present cost, did not make it out the revenue committees in either the house or the senate. Senators Christine Rodogno (R-Dist.24) and Wendell Jones (R-Dist.27) were on the revenue committee in the senate, and two of our biggest supporters to stop the bill. MHOAI is hoping the sponsors of these bills will meet with us this summer and discuss our concerns.

If you know someone or live in the Rockford area please contact director Terry Nelson, mhoai1@aol.com. It is your state representative Dave Winters (R-Dist.69) which introduced and pushed to get HB 2102 passed. MHOAI has no membership at present time in this area. We are going to bet that the home owners in that area are not aware that the bill came from an elected official in their district that could of negatively affected them and home owners throughout the state. MHOAI will be introducing ourselves and organizing meetings in the Rockford area this summer.

We are also hoping to hear from home owners in the East ST. Louis area, it was their elected official Senator James Clayborne (D-Dist.57) which introduced this huge tax increase in the senate.

Note: We were able to stop the tax increases this year, but do not believe that they will not be introduced again next year. We need to make sure that if elected officials are going to sponsor such bills that the voters in their area are aware of their actions. MHOAI wants to thank the many home owners throughout the state that took the time to call and write the revenue committee members. It shows officials that MHOAI is not alone at the hearings, and also have the support needed by voters. We also want to remind members, and future members that MHOAI was the only organization that spoke up at these hearing for you. We helped keep your hard earned money in your pocket and not someone else’s again this year. If you are not a member yet and are wondering what MHOAI has done lately, we saved you hundreds of dollars by stopping these bills. If MHOAI had not made you aware of such bills, how would you even know in many cases. You would of gotten an incredible high tax bill this year and wondered why.
