Shortened Legislative Session

In SpringfieldMany in Springfield have realized that very little will actually be accomplished this year due to the March primary election. The short Spring session will allow candidates a chance to get back to their home districts and campaign for the primaries and the November general election.

Even though legislators will be campaigning, we still need to watch bills that could slip in while the majority of legislators are addressing election issues. Landlord associations are still actively working to introduce bills that would be detrimental to our communities.

What happen to the tax increase bills? MHOAI spoke with Rep. Dave Winters (R-Dist. 69), he told MHOAI he will not pursue his past efforts to raise the tax this year. We spoke with Sen. James Clayborn (D-Dist. 57), he did not officially declare his position on the tax bills, but said he would be willing to meet with MHOAI again and discuss this issue. We will keep you advised on this and other important issues.
