State-wide Zoning Sought

(Nov. 26th, 2001)

In SpringfieldState Senator Wendell Jones (R-27) is working with MHOAI and Des Plaines City Attorney Dave Wiltse to introduce a bill in spring session that will address one of our zoning concerns. This legislation is in response to an unwanted adult establishment in Elk Grove Township that received a special license to build across from our neighborhoods because we are not zoned residential.

We are working on language that would not change the way your neighborhood is already zoned and taxed, but still allow us the same choices that other single family home owners have when businesses such as this apply for licenses and permits.

At this time we still have not received a date from the appellate court on a hearing to reverse the decision that allows an adult video and bookstore to build in Elk Grove Township across the street from two bus stops that drop off and pick up eight bus loads of children. Attorney Dave Wiltse does expect a date until April or May.

State Senator Christine Radogno (R-24) still continues to keep manufactured home owner issues as a priority on her agenda. We will be working on a bill that goes back to SB 70 issues, and work to update the Landlord and Tenants Act. When we finish the language of the bill we will notify members.

This is the bill that will get the most attention from opponents, and we will need the support from everyone, doing their small part, if we are going to get bills such as this passed.
