Last Reminder for the MHOAI Trip to Springfield
8th Annual Manufactured Home Owners Day
Springfield Rally
April 16th
It is time for homeowners to again organize and return to our state
capitol in Springfield for our 8th annual Manufactured Home Owner's
Day. This rally will be held on Wednesday, April 16th.
Many who have attended in the past have seen first hand the
postitive and important impact that this day brings towards the issues
which homeowners face.
There are 59 state senators and 118 state representatives that need to
hear from our group. This is our day to work towards laws that will
bring security to our housing market, back door and communities.
WHY?
- To let elected officials see our faces and hear from you, the very people their decision making affects.
- To let elected officials know we are organized,
involved and watching how their votes in Springfield reflect the needs
of homeowners in their districts.
- Our numbers will speak volumes towards achieving home owner's shared goals and our demand to
- The attendance of homeowners from throughout the state
will show elected officials that our issues are not limited to one
person, community or county as opponents express to them.
- You are needed to help expel old stigmas which include for example, if you do not like what happens to
you once you buy your home, you just hook it up to a truck and move it.
- Your presence is needed to let elected officials know
that you back MHOAI and our work towards new and future legislation
that brings fair and balanced laws between homeowners and owner
operators.
- You will end the day knowing that your presence
combined with others really did make a difference that will affect the
future security in our lives and communities.
What do I need to know?
- If you are traveling in a large group or on a bus, have someone
from your group contact Terry Nelson for information at (847-296-5762).
We need to make sure each elected official is contacted either in
person or left with material regarding our concerns. As it gets closer
to this day we will know which legislators will need more attention
than others this year.
- Everyone needs to wear a name tag with "Manufactured
Home Owner Day" and your name and/or the city you are from written on
it. MHOAI directors will have name tags for you if you do not have them
when you arrive.
- Once you arrive you will need to break into smaller
groups of four or five - deciding ahead of time who will be the
spokesperson when you meet legislators.
- Feel free to pass out a letter you may personally want to write, however, it is best to keep it to one page.
- If your state representative is a sponsor and/or shows
past results of aiding our organization, we ask that you leave a thank
you card or letter if you are unable to meet with him or her. Our focus
needs to be on legislators who do not have manufactured home
communities in their district or do not have MHOAI members in their
district to contact them.
- If you are planning to attend at the last minute or if
this is your first time, MHOAI directors will be on the first floor of
the capitol building to greet and help you with any questions. We can
also introduce you to homeowners who have attended in the past to help
you with your day and give you materials to pass out.
- When legislators go to the floor to vote on bills,
homeowners need to go to the galleries to remind legislators that we
are watching.
Most asked questions and suggestions:
- Time: We will be there the whole day starting at 8:00 am.
- Information: There is an informations station in the
capitol building on the first floor. You can get lists of the
legislator's office numbers and a schedule of the day for both the
house and senate. This is also the area where you will find the MHOAI
directors.
- Food: There are two cafeterias.
- Shoes: Wear comfortable shoes.
- For those who cannot walk all day, there are places where you can rest including the cafeterias.
- If you are having trouble finding a specific office,
feel free to ask one of the secretaries sitting at the many desks. The
senators and some house leadership are in the capitol building. The
building next door, known as the Stratton Building, is where you will
find the majority of the house representatives located on the 2nd
floor.
- Enjoy your day. If you have not been to the capitol
building you will find that the state has kept it as a beautiful
building of history. The building was completed in 1888 and has
undergone major restoration projects over the years.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call one of our
directors. Not only is this an important and exciting day, we want to
make it as easy as possible for everyone. If can not be stressed enough
how important your presence is. We have let legislators know we are
coming and as in past years hope to be recognized on the floor of both
chambers. It will be our numbers that allow for needed changes in
Illinois that will keep up the changes in our housing market. We need
to get laws passed sooner rather than later. MHOAI can be in
Springfield the rest of the year as needed. It is Manufactured Home
Owner's Day that will show elected officials that you as a homeowner
back up MHOAI's efforts. Come walk with us and bring your neighbors and
friends.
