MHO Day: United We Stand

(Article added Oct. 15th, 2003)

On a sunny day in Springfield approximately 400 homeowners from through out the state ascended the steps of the State Capitol to meet and discuss their issues with state legislators on Manufactured Home Owners Day. We met many of the 59 Senators and 118 Representatives that make laws governing our communities. Our legislators know we work as a team to preserve and improve our homes and communities

Homeowners in attendance were able to watch our legislators debate and vote on Bills that could become laws for citizens state-wide. Some of our legislators also took time out of their busy day to visit the gallery and meet with their constituents. We took this opportunity to remind them that homeowners need updated laws that are fair and balanced. We also informed them that laws to address these needs must be passed into law.

State Senator Clayborn met with MHOAI president Terry Nelson at the end of the day to let homeowners know he has no intention of presenting any tax-related bills in the next spring session. Other legislators also noted how well organized and strong we are when we stand together as MHOAI.

Homeowners were also able to meet and speak with residents of other communities in our state. Many identified similar concerns even though they were from different areas. Our legislators know our problems are not restricted to one community, county or group of people as landlord associations would like to say. Instead, those attending MHO Day returned home knowing they made a difference and an impact on their elected officials.

We want to thank everyone who donated their time to help us organize MHO Day. We also want to thank all of you that took the time to travel to our state capitol. Without your effort and attendance, MHOAI would not have had nearly the successful day or positive impact. Every year, more residents attend this special day and our elected officials can not write off our issues when we are there ready to put our faces and our voices together for reforms in state laws.
