Representatives from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and the National Consumer Law Center have been working with manufactured homeowners and representatives from several states to publish the revised “Shifting the Balance of Power,” a publication with model legislation for manufactured homeowners.
Terry Nelson, MHOAI President and a consultant on the project, announced the new publication will be available in about two months. AARP last published information on state laws and model legislation in the 70’s.
The publication will discuss the pros and cons of legislation governing home ownership in manufactured communities. It will offer states and homeowner organizations examples of laws and guidelines for working with their neighbors and legislators.
“We are very excited about this publication into which a lot of work and time from many has gone into the final draft,” Nelson said. “The majority of laws to help homeowners will have to be put in place by their state association and with a team effort of homeowners in their State’s communities, just as Illinois homeowners are doing. This publication will be very informative and will give homeowners another avenue toward better laws in each state.”
